Candidates are initially provided with a provisional work permit and within two years of arrival must have the purpose and ability to launch or buy a company in Manitoba. The stream abolishes a prior requirement with the Manitoba government for a $100,000 deposit. There are opportunities for businessmen and farm buyers alike.
To applicants wishing to open a Manitoba company. Candidates with a temporary work permit are initially issued. After establishing a business meeting the conditions of a Business Performance Agreement, they are nominated to permanent residence. Candidates starting out companies outside Winnipeg are given preference.
Under the real estate alternative an buyer must buy within the country a government-approved real estate with a valuation of USD 220,000. In addition to the investment, it also requires applicants to pay government fees based on the number of dependents. The buyer shall hold the property in his / her possession for five years after which he / she will re-sell it.
Nova Scotia
The Nova Scotia Entrepreneur stream targets applicants with experiences in business ownership or senior management. They have to live in Nova Scotia, either start a new business or buy an existing business and participate actively in that business’s day-to-day management.
Candidates are first issued a temporary work permit under the Entrepreneur stream before applying for permanent residence after the business has been operating for a year. The stream uses an Expression of Interest format, where applicants are invited to apply within a pool.
Entrepreneur Stream: Candidate Requirements
Be aged 21 or older.
Want to live permanently in Nova Scotia while owning and actively managing a Nova Scotia business.
Minimum net worth of $600,000.
Minimum investment of $150,000 to establish or purchase a business in Nova Scotia.
Minimum 3 years of experience actively managing and owning a business (33 percent ownership minimum) OR more than 5 years of experience in a senior business management role.
Score minimum of 5 on the Canadian Language Benchmark in speaking, listening, reading and writing in English or French.
