Canada is Planning to continue rising immigration applications even after 2020, despite travel restrictions and reduced numbers of new permanent residents.
Marco Mendicino, Canada’s immigration minister stated that we are not scaling back from our immigration targets for the next three-year levels plan.
Despite high immigration targets, travel restrictions are stopping the flow of would-be newcomers. Though Canada was set to welcome 341,000 new immigrants this year, so far only 128,186 new permanent residents arrived between January and August.
Marco Mendicino, Canada’s immigration minister is also waiting on a mandate letter from Canada’s prime minister, Justin Trudeau, which will further illuminate the government’s future plans for immigration.
